This was a wedding present, and I have come to use it increasingly. My mother liked it so much, she went out and got one for herself. It measures in ounces, tablespoons, and teaspoons. I do also own one slightly smaller, but this one is more versatile.
I have two powerful examples of excellent usefulness. When I make the mashed potatoes, I must measure four tablespoons of garlic. This is the best way to measure and contain that amount before you add it to the stove. I can even scrape the garlic mincer along the lip of the tumbler to get all the garlic off that tries to stick to the outside of the mincer. Another excellent idea is when I need to mix an Asian sauce with lime, ketchup, and soy sauce as in Moosewood Restaurant's "Moosewood Cooks at Home". This is a good dish for squeezing the lime into. I can add ketchup and soy sauce to the rim, stir, and when done take up much less space in my dishwasher than other kitchen toys would. It's a favorite.
Thank you Guitreaus!
