The biscuit recipe came from my mother and the gravy recipe came from Paul's mother through her mother-in-law.
Recipe for Biscuits
- 5 1/4 c flour
- 6T sugar (I use brown)
- 1 3/4 c. milk
- 4 T baking powder
- 3/4 t baking soda
- 1 c Butter
- 1 1/2 t salt
This recipe is for a triple batch. I normally do half that. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Mix dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients. Stir. Roll onto floured cookie sheet, about 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutter or the rim of a drinking glass. Lay on cookie sheet. I put my Silpat down so it is easier to clean the cookie sheet. Bake for 12 minutes.
Recipe for Egg Gravy
- 4 eggs
- 4 c. Milk
- 1/2 c. flour
- 1t McKay's Chicken Flavoring (vegetarian)
- 1 t Salt
- oil
Heat a skillet om medium. Put enough oil in bottom of large skillet to cover bottom and prevent eggs from sticking. Break eggs in skillet. Brown and break yolks. Mix the dried in a measuring cup and sprinkle it over the eggs. Brown a bit more. Add all the milk while stirring. Do not let it boil. Turn down if necessary. Continue stirring until thick.
Our breakfast is often served with a veggie-meat, orange juice, and fruit.
