Daily Hommus

I have a standard daily lunch. Some of the doctors shake their heads that it doesn't sound like much or isn't balanced enough. Other staff tease me. And even others tell me I'm out of my mind and that hommus tastes nasty. But these are the same people that happen across hommus in the grocery store and think about me.

So, I have small Rubbermaid or Tupperware containers that I fill with spoonfuls of hommus at the beginning of the week and take out every day as I run out to work. I also divide whole grain crackers into bowls and have those sitting on the counter to be grabbed upon running exit from the building. I also try to cut up carrot sticks or another vegetable and divide individual servings into Ziplock bags for the week. Lastly is an addition of chocolate soymilk in individual serving containers from Costco. Cow's milk has 25% calcium per serving with 8 grams of protein. Kirkland's brand has 30% calcium, but I'm still learning how to drink the "plain variety." So, I drink cow's milk for breakfast and Chocolate Soy milk for lunch and sometimes for a snack.

The price tag for my lunch is roughly as follows:

  • Hannah's Hommus $5.99 for 2 lbs.
  • Kirkland Chocolate Soymilk $12.99 for (I think) 20 to-go containers.
  • Nice crackers from Costco (and I have tried most, but have yet to find one I love) run an average of $8.00
  • Veggie stick prices vary by size and amount purchased. We can get a giant carrot at the farmer's market for $0.50 and chop it into sticks that will last one of us a week.

I have no pictures of my daily lunch for work, but I can recommend a nice little website of hommus and other Hannah products.
