I don't know how we found this restaurant, how we got there, or how much we paid for the meal. I was just following the group for a change instead of leading the pack.

Fondue and raclette is most likely found at the same restaurant. Fondue means "melted" and is cheese in a bowl that bite-sized pieces of bread are dipped in. Raclette is sliced cheese that gets melted before your very eyes and is scraped over a cooked potato. Keep in mind that the fondue has alcohol in it, and the French waitress told Brina that the alcohol cooks out. I elected to do the raclette because I had a hard time imagining a full meal of bread covered in cheese, but it wasn't like there wasn't bread on the table we could pour the melted cheese over, too.

Although fondue and raclette are standard French cuisines, I didn't go for it too much. It was more fun to melt the cheese and scrape it onto the potato with the little spatula then anything else. I guess I'm just used to a baked potato with lots of other toppings. I definitely am glad I ate raclette for the experience, but I'm also able to accept that it wasn't anything off the charts. (Sorry, Brina.)

I agree--it wasn't that

I agree--it wasn't that great. At home--raclette is generally eaten about once a year in France, like at Christmas or when you have special company--we add onions, garlic, and all kinds of herbs and spices to the melted cheese. And we also buy several different types of cheese. The restaurant type was boring--although I have had better in other fondue restaurants in the Alps region of France as well as in Switzerland--to tell you the truth, many French living outside the mountain regions have never had either raclette or fondue!
