By the time we left Paris, I was aching for an omelette. Omelettes are totally French, and Paul promised we wouldn't starve because there would always be one on the menus of restaurants. I guess I researched restaurants that didn't have omelettes--not that we starved in Paris either!

At Creperie la Picoterie in Chartre, there was a make-your-own omelette on the menu. I ordered onions only, but later regretted not going all-out and ordering all the veggies offered. I really enjoyed the omelette here. It was the best of the two I had in France. The eggs were fluffy and well-cooked, but not dry--in fact, were almost runny inside. Just the way I like them! (Remember, most Europeans are into soft boiled and other more runny eggs.) And the onions tasted caramelized. Paul and Dad had buckwheat crepes/galettes shaped in a triangle, hanging off the plate, and filled with beautiful veggies. The pastry itself was greasy and falling apart, perhaps because of the salad dressing. At least the omelette was good and the service was fast. English=speaking by the waiter was adequate. I believe I remember him getting nervous and calling a helper over.
