SAT Scores Needed to Get Accepted

Applicants with SAT scores of 1570 and above have a good chance of being admitted to MIT, while applicants with SAT scores between 1520 to 1570 have an average chance of admittance, and prospective students with an SAT score below 1520 have a low chance of being offered a spot at MIT.

In all, 9,489 students were deferred (or 64.2% of applicants), while 3,959 were denied admission outright (or 26.8% of applicants). The other applicants either switched their applications to Regular Decision or withdrew from the process entirely.

MIT's early action acceptance rate was 4.7%, with 14,781 applicants and 697 acceptances and 9,488 deferred to regular decision; of those deferred, only 176 were later admitted (or 1.8%). MIT's regular decision acceptance rate was 2.2%, with 640 students admitted out of 28,474 total applicants (regular + deferred).

Beyond Ivy: Stanford, MIT, and Duke

When the Ivy League was established, these institutions didn't have notably robust athletic programs, hence their exclusion. However, their academic performance is often at par with, and sometimes even surpasses, their Ivy League counterparts.

The Institute attempts to offer interviews to as many applicants as possible, but they acknowledge that they may not be able to connect every single applicant with an alumnus due to geographic constraints. According to MIT, more than 70% of applicants receive an interview.

Interviews are not a required part of the MIT application. While we try to offer as many interviews as we can, we have limited availability and may not able to offer interviews to all applicants. If your interview is waived, it will not put you at a disadvantage in the admissions process.

You must be a high school junior (11th grade). Seniors can't apply, and younger students are rarely accepted. Second, complete standardized testing and submit your PSAT, ACT, or SAT scores. RSI prefers the PSAT, looking for math scores of at least 740 and EBRW scores of at least 700.
